\nThe following UTC Faculty and Staff have attracted $649,901 in external grant and contract awards:<\/h4>\n

Mr. Robert Baggett (Engineering Management & Technology) and Dr. Dana Moody (Interior Design) have received $7,272 from the Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners for the project entitled, “TBAEE Special Grant 2018 Community Design Studio.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Lucien Ellington and Jeffrey Melnik (School of Education) have received $83,597 from the Association for Asian Studies, Inc. for the project entitled, “Education About Asia Journal 2019.”<\/p>\n

Mr. John Freeze (Continuing education) and Jeffrey Grant (Center for Professional Education) have received $54,823 from the University of Tennessee – Institute of Public Service for the project entitled, “Southeastern Command and Leadership Academy (SECLA).”<\/p>\n

Drs. June Hanks, David Levine (Physical Therapy) and Dr. Henry Spratt (Biology, Geology, and Environmental Science) have received $2,506 from the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association for the project entitled, “Environmental contamination in a Long-Term Acute Care Facility and recommendations for disinfection protocols.”<\/p>\n

Ms. Catherine Kendall (Interior Design) has received $3,500 from the Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners for the project entitled, “2018-19 TBAEE NCIDQ Application & Exam Fees and Drawing Enhancement Grant.”<\/p>\n

Drs. Andrew Ledoan, Jin Wang, Roger Nichols (Mathematics) and Dr. Sherry Marlow Ormsby (OPEIR) have received $282,659 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “REU Site: Research Training for Undergraduates in Mathematical Analysis with Applications in Allied Fields.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Thomas Loveless (Electrical Engineering) has requested and received $76,000 from Vanderbilt University for the project entitled, “Fundamental Research into Radiation Resiliency of Emerging Circuit Technologies Appropriate to the CWMD Mission.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Charles Margraves (Mechanical Engineering) has received $29,975 from the Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners for the project entitled, “Mechanical Engineering TBAEE Grant.”<\/p>\n

Mr. Charles Mix (IGT Lab) has requested and received $458 from the Land Between the Lakes Association Inc. for the project entitled, “Land Between the Lakes Regional Water Trails Map.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Renee Murley (School of Education) has received $60,571 from the Tennessee Department of Education for the project entitled, “Governor’s School for Prospective Teachers 2018-19.”<\/p>\n

Drs. Christina Policastro, Karen McGuffee, and the late Dr. Helen Eigenberg (Social, Cultural, and Justice Studies) secured $39,440 from the Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence for the project entitled, “2019 Tommy Burks Victim Assistance Academy.”<\/p>\n

Ms. Kristina Wick (School of Nursing), Dr. Lisa Harrison (Physical Therapy), and Dr. Christine Smith (School of Nursing) have received $9,100 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists – Giving Circle for the project entitled, “Interdisciplinary Standardized Patient Program.”<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>The following UTC faculty and staff members submitted proposals for the potential to generate over $2,521,203 <\/strong>in external funding, if awarded:<\/h4>\n

Drs. Jejal Reddy Bathi (Chemical Engineering), Mina Sartipi (CUIP), Farah Kandah (Computer Science & Engineering), Kidambi Sreenivas (Mechanical Engineering), and Thomas Loveless (Electrical Engineering) have submitted a preliminary proposal to the US Geological Survey for the project entitled, “Preliminary Proposal: Smart Real-Time Control (SmaRT Control) for Accurate Monitoring and Management of Urban Stormwater Runoff.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Michael Danquah (Chemical Engineering) has submitted a preliminary proposal to St. Baldrick’s Foundation for the project entitled, “Preliminary Proposal: Aptameric targeting of CD19 transmembrane receptors for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia therapy.”<\/p>\n

Drs. Preston Foerder (Psychology), Farah Kandah (Computer Science & Engineering), and Hope Klug (Biology, Geology, and Environmental Science) have requested $59,918 from the Human Animal Bond Research Initiative Foundation for the project entitled, “eAdopt: Utilizing Low-Latency Computing to Develop a Virtual Dog Therapy System.”<\/p>\n

Drs. Farah Kandah (Computer Science & Engineering), Mina Sartipi (CUIP), Hope Klug (Biology, Geology, and Environmental Science), and Anthony Skjellum (SimCenter) have requested $499,663 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “CC* Networking Infrastructure: Advancing High-speed Networking at UTC for Research and Education.”<\/p>\n

Drs. Joseph Kizza, Farah Kandah (Computer Science & Engineering), Jose Barbosa (Biology, Geology, and Environmental Science), Dalei Wu (Computer Science & Engineering), Nurhidajat Sisworahardjo (Electrical Engineering) have requested $495,577 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “CyberTraining: Implementation: Medium: Enhancing Cybersecurity and Data Science Skills in Multidisciplinary Research and Workforce Development.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Thomas Loveless (Electrical Engineering) has requested $302,769 from the Air Force Research Laboratory for the project entitled, “Fundamental Research into Radiation Effects in Cryogenic Electronics Technologies.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Thomas Loveless (Electrical Engineering) has requested $35,000 from Nu-Trek, Inc. for the project entitled, “Design of Radiation Effects Test Structures for Cryogenic Space Environments.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Thomas Loveless (Electrical Engineering) has submitted a preliminary proposal to the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “CubeSat Ideas Lab: Cross-cutting Initiative in CubeSat Innovations.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Jared Pienkos (Chemistry and Physics) has submitted a preliminary proposal to the Department of Energy for the project entitled, “Catalysts with trans-bidentate ligands for CO2 reduction.”<\/p>\n

Drs. Anthony Skjellum (SimCenter), Ethan Hereth (SimCenter), Farah Kandah, Craig Tanis (Computer Science & Engineering), Kidambi Sreenivas (Mechanical Engineering), and Eleni Panagiotou (Mathematics) have requested $392,235 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “CC* Compute: A Cost-Effective, 2,048 Core InfiniBand Cluster at UTC for Campus Research and Education.”<\/p>\n

Mr. Takeo Suzuki (International Education) and Dr. Robert Dooley (College of Business) have requested $157,776 from the Meridian International Center for the project entitled, “Entrepreneurship & Economic Development SUSI Institute.”<\/p>\n

Drs. Craig Tanis (Computer Science & Engineering), Anthony Skjellum, Ethan Hereth (SimCenter), and Amanda Clark (Psychology) have requested $218,267 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Collaborative Research: CyberTraining: Pilot: Growing the Workforce in High Performance Computing and Scalable Systems.”<\/p>\n
